When I heard that there was a small village full of cats in Taiwan, I knew it was going to be good – but in fact, it was so much better than I could have imagined! We had only a short time in Taiwan, staying in Taipei, but I made sure we went out of our way to visit Houtong. It’s less than an hour drive from Taipei and definitely worth the trip if you’re a cat lover like me. It’s also fairly easy to access by public transport but we were too afraid of getting lost to try this as we don’t speak any Mandarin.
As soon as you arrive in the station or car park, you are greeted by a lot of lovely cats! I thought we might have to go looking for them, or that they would be hidden away from the rain (it was drizzling lightly the whole day). But no. You will have no trouble finding cats. In fact, it’s safe to say that I saw more cats than people in this village! There are many little houses and steps/rests for the cats everywhere to make sure that they are comfortable.
