Originating in modern-day Iran, then known as Persia, in the mid-1500s, Persians spread around Europe as treasured pets of caravanning Roman and Phoenician migrants. They are medium to large-sized, round-bodied, and faced cats with long-haired, tabby-colored coats.
Persians are the ultimate couch potato with very low levels of energy, intelligence, and independence. They may appear cold and indifferent, especially if they do not know or trust you, but they are affectionate companions that demand attention once they warm to you.
They are one of the most high-maintenance breeds because you must groom them daily in addition to regular professional grooming appointments to avoid their coat from matting.
